Layers of sediment deposited, one on top of another. The lower layers gradually squeezed and compressed by the weight of the upper ones. Further down still, the pressure and heat of the earth's inner parts cause changes to the physical or chemical form of the rock - metamorphosis.
Strata is Inspired by the layers of sedimentary rock exposed by the relentless energy of the sea. I love to walk by the ocean and my eye is drawn as much by the rocky formations to one side as the ocean to the other.
The subtle sheen of silk fibres draws the eye and closer inspection reveals the three dimensional depiction of "blocky" rock formations towards the lower portion of the artwork.
At 142 cm x 55 cm, Strata looks equally striking hung vertically or horizontally.
